What do I get for a $99.00 Virus removal?

You are basically paying for 1 to 4 hours of "hands on" time that it takes to professionally and thoroughly repair a virus stricken computer.

If we cannot bring your system back to "normal" we will provide a comprehensive repair consultation and at this point you can decide to continue or take the unit back as is. If we have done this in a very short time, then the 99.00 cost is negotiable and usually falls into the 50 dollar consultation range. Consider that not many companies will allow you this flexible cost.

Historically, the unit must be left with us for a couple of days in order to go through the entire process.

What is this process?

First, the hard drive must be removed, evaluated, quarantined, scanned, "cured" and tested.

Once the hard drive is found to be viable, we attempt to restart your computer to see that it boots "normally" and starts the operating system..

If this succeeds, the repair is complete.

In addition to these intense services, the interior of the computer will be completely cleared of all dust. This greatly enhances the CPU speed if the fan and heatsink were clogged with dust.

If time permits, an attempt to download Windows updates will begin.

We will advise you on what viruses attacked your computer and also suggest a "free" virus protection product that we highly recommend.

How do we get started?

1. You bring me your computer (Only the BOX or Laptop ...no need for monitor, keyboard or any of the other items, unless you think they are the problem). I have several drop off locations in the area if you cannot stay for the initial examination. For an additional 20.00 we will pick up the unit. Please see Service rates for "in-home" or "office" labor rates.

2. Tell me where it hurts. (The major issue you are having)

3. If the computer powers up, we will discuss the history of the problem, typical causes and repair strategy, plus fill out any paperwork.

4. You can ask me any computer related questions, relevant to this computer repair or not.

5. If and when the computer starts the operating system, we should be able to make a decision as to what the options are to bring the computer back up to speed.

6. The $99.00 pays for the initial diagnosis and potential repair.  

7. If the repair is going to exceed the 99.00 I will quote you a high limit cost once we have discussed the repair strategy. Some computers just aren't worth fixing. Data such as pictures, music, documents, tax files are worth saving!

8. Most complete operating system failures that require a fresh installation, hours of Windows updates and or hardware failures result in labor charges under $100.00.
